In a culture of improvement, everyone has skills in seeing the opportunities (aka problems), using the problem solving process and implementing solutions. This “Individual Contributor / Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt ” course prepares every member of the organization to complete personal improvement activities and enable them to participate in team improvement activities that target larger opportunities.

Goal of Continuous Improvement Yellow Belt:

Learn how to perform a CI project. Everyone brings a problem/project to training to begin and advance a project during training. Certification upon completion of small, individual project. Using the Tell/Show/Do/Recycle learning approach, participants will learn several Improvement (Lean Six Sigma and Quality) techniques followed by immediate application on their own work problem. They will learn and apply the improvement cycle phases of establishing goals and measures; process mapping; using data, identifying waste & value to understand the opportunities in current activities; performing cause and effect analysis to determine the root of the problems and identify solutions; testing and installing solutions.

Agenda: 

Training: 16 hours of interactive education and application. Participants bring a scenario to class on which to focus and practice.

  1. Working with Others active communication skills
  2. How to apply the improvement process to a problem step by step (and templates to help!)
  3. Creating a goal and measures of success
  4. Understanding the current state; evaluating value and waste and prioritizing opportunities
  5. Problem solving, using 5 Whys to get to the root of problems
  6. Prioritizing actions and solutions
  7. Testing, learning, and installing the solutions in the workplace


Prerequisites (recommended): White Belt: Introduction to Improvement Course.


Application and Coaching: One-on-one coaching until results are achieved.

Certification: Participation in this course and completion of 1 project = Continuous Improvement Yellow Belt CERTIFICATION.
