ENGAGING ALL TEAM MEMBERS

ENGAGEMENT builds retention, pride, ownership, and better results for everyone. Engagment helps everyone achieve individual and team potential = High performance. Engagement is critical to long-term success.

WHAT IS ENGAGEMENT?

  1. Positive behavior or a positive state of mind at work that leads to positive work-related outcomes. Employees with high levels of work engagement are energetic and dedicated to their work and immersed to their work.
  2. Commitment to helping the organization achieve its goals. It's demonstrated by how employees think, feel, and act, as well as the emotional connection employees, feel towards their organization, their work, and their team.

IF ENGAGEMENT IS IMPORTANT AND IMPACTFUL TO EVERYONE'S PERFORMANCE, WHY IS IT STILL A BIG GAP?

In the trend line below, Gallup, states that employee engagement has reached a record high of 23%. SERIOUSLY! If only 23% of team members are engaged in meaningful, impactful work what are the other 77% of team members doing?

HOW TO MEASURE ENGAGEMENT, see the visual below

Turn over and complaints can be a measure of engagement. Going deeper other engagement measures appear, including active listening & communicating, comfort in raising and solving problems, or the # of errors and rework.

The Powers & Glasser categories (Survival, Belonging, Power, Fun, & Creativity) provide engagement guidance and a way to self-assess. As a leader, are you providing these for everyone? As a team member, do you have all 5 categories satisfied?

These categories, below, are applicable to all and can be a launching point to determining how to provide these for all team members. Our personal experience in leading & participating in improvement activites has confirmed these categories.
